The first café I want to introduce is in the Amalienpassage in Maxvorstadt. Mary’s Coffee Club was founded in 2018 by Mary Weiss. Before that, she opened Germany’s first açaí café, Daddy Longlegs, in 2014, also in Maxvorstadt. Today the Coffee Club is an all-day breakfast spot and the go-to place for breakfast and brunch fans. The café sits very quietly in a courtyard, which makes it a good place to work in peace. The food is really tasty, and I especially recommend the sandwiches.

Lost Weekend is more than just a café. Events take place here regularly, especially on weekends: open mic, live bands or line dancing, there is something for everyone. During the day it also works well as a coworking space. Since it is right in the university district, you will find lots of students here studying or meeting for a coffee break. The menu has a big selection of drinks, alcoholic, non-alcoholic and caffeinated, plus a small selection of snacks. If you want to work here, keep in mind that it is relatively loud because of the music and the crowds.

Beim Hauser Café und Bäckerei: Delicious cinnamon and pistachio rolls

Beim Hauser is also close to the university, not even 200 metres from Lost Weekend. This cosy café has the perfect atmosphere for working or studying. There are also larger tables in case you want to sit together with a bigger group. The menu has plenty of coffee specialities, pastries, filled baguettes and more. I especially recommend the delicious pistachio and cinnamon rolls.

Bean Batter is in Munich’s Westend, in the Schwanthalerhöhe district near the main station. Its blue walls give the café its character. Bean Batter serves all the typical café snacks and drinks, plus fresh waffles and shakshuka, a North African stew. I can also recommend the cheesecake. Heads up: while coworking is no problem from Monday to Friday, the website explicitly says there is no “workspace” on weekends. On Saturdays and Sundays, laptops have to stay in the bag.

Café Bla is very central in Munich, on Lilienstraße. The interior is inviting, in bold colours. The menu has all the typical snacks and drinks you expect from a café. The cake is especially good. Breakfast and lunch are served until 3 pm. Many people use the café as a coworking space and work on their laptops. Here too: Sundays are laptop-free!
