Best cafés to work in Hualien
Taiwan
Working remotely from Hualien
Hualien sits on Taiwan's east coast, between the Pacific Ocean and the Central Mountain Range. It is the main city of Hualien County and a key gateway to Taroko National Park with its distinctive marble gorge.
The city is compact and feels noticeably calmer than the large urban centers in the west. Beach, harbor and mountains are all close together. Hualien can be reached by train from Taipei, and the region also has an airport and bus connections. Locally, scooters, taxis and buses are common ways to get around.
Hualien's café scene is varied: alongside small specialty coffee roasters you will find cafés in converted older buildings, places with sea views and spots with garden areas. Many are located in the center, around the train station and in quieter residential streets.
For working on a laptop, cafés with enough space, Wi-Fi and power outlets are the best choice. The atmosphere is usually relaxed, often with tables suited to longer stays. Since policies can differ, it is worth checking each café's guidelines.
